Abstract

Microbial keratitis, commonly called as 'corneal ulcer' is an ophthalmic emergency. The prompt management of corneal infection is required to limit its morbidity, which mandates a good knowledge of its varied clinical presentation, basic knowledge of the microorganisms involved, various surgical / non surgical treatment options and follow-up.Corneal infections quite often results in corneal blindness, which is the second most common cause of treatable blindness after cataract.
