Abstract

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a vaso-proliferative disorder affecting the retinal blood vessels of a growing preterm is the leading cause of preventable infant blindness. Advances in neonatal care have improved the survival of preterms globally, especially in India, increasing the burden of ROP. The challenges we face include large “at risk” population, limited number of trained specialists, suboptimal awareness regarding timely screening and treatment and logistical issues. This IC aims to address some of these challenges, by increasing awareness about ROP including screening protocols and management and by giving guidance on how to set up a screening program. We have an ROP expert as guest faculty, to update on the role of surgery and Tele-ROP. Other retinal pathologies encountered during ROP screening will also be discussed. We hope this session will improve awareness about the current scenario of ROP, and also inspire and motivate more youngsters to pursue ROP services
