Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) is deficiency in vision due to damage to or malfunction of visual pathways and visual centers in the brain. It’s an umbrella term covering a range of visual difficulties ranging from profound visual impairment with poor visual awareness ( low functioning CVI) to normal or near normal vision with significant difficulties in using the vision ( High Functioning CVI ) . CVI is increasingly reported in our country due to better survival of extremely premature babies who suffer from neurological damage in the perinatal period. So it is the responsibility of eye professionals to learn about CVI and its habilitation strategies. When we come across such special children with CVI, we realize that we are not adequately trained to handle their problems. This Instruction Course is an attempt to inspire and guide ophthalmology community in assessment and habilitation of CVI children.
