Abstract

Mastery of phacoemulsification is crucial for young ophthalmologists, as it is gold standard for cataract extraction and is continually evolving. For beginners in phacoemulsification, focusing on mastering the basic steps is crucial before advancing to more complex techniques. During postgraduation only SICS is being taught and beginners have a difficult initial learning curve which can be overcome through attending hands-on workshops and surgical experiences. The present virtual reality training programs are the need of the hour for the junior surgeons to practice and improve their surgical skills. Once you master the technique the next step is to tackle cataract with co-existing challenges like small pupil or increased grades of cataract. Nowadays the demand for customized IOL is on the rise and patient selection is very crucial to achieve good results. How to build a successful practice and marketing yourself are equally challenging and one needs to master this in the present era.Dr.Divya Menon
