Abstract
Inspite of modern techniques in cataract surgery and IOL implantation in infants, management of congenital cataract is challenging and refraction and visual outcome often unpredictable due to various factors.The causative factors, especially Rubella and cytomegalovirus infections in our country has lot of implications in the visual outcome.There are grey areas as to the prevention and management of visual axis opacification .IOL power calculation in a child also does not have a universal consesnsus.Genetic evaluation in congenital catarct is not done routinely and is a grey ares as well. Lot of systemic and ocular associations may influence the visual outcome too.We reflect upon these features and the future directions in congenital cataract which can affect evaluation and management of these cases.
