Synopsis: Endophthalmitis in a sight threatening devastating complication of any intraocular surgical
procedure. Timely diagnosis and appropriate management in essential in preventing permanent
vision loss. This course will discuss the epidemiology, preoperative infection prophylaxis, changing
presentation, newer causative agents, emerging antimicrobial resistance as well as advances in the
diagnostic armamentarium and management of endophthalmitis. In addition to post cataract
endophthalmitis, relevant data on post intravitreal injection, post vitrectomy endophthalmitis as well as recent trends in the management of culture negative endophthalmitis will be covered.
